With the rise of IoT devices operating in satellite networks, the need for reliable and secure communication systems has never been greater, especially in environments vulnerable to intentional interference. After a rigorous design and development process, the team has delivered a comprehensive solution that enhances satellite communication systems by effectively detecting and mitigating jamming attacks.

Key Achievements:

Advanced Jamming Detection and Mitigation:

The JEANS project developed and successfully tested innovative methods for detecting and mitigating protocol-aware jamming attacks. These attacks, which target vulnerabilities in communication protocols, are particularly damaging and difficult to detect. The system now ensures that IoT satellite networks remain operational even under hostile conditions.

Successful Protocol Selection:

After rigorous testing, the project team selected the S-MIM protocol as the most effective solution for handling jamming attacks, particularly random preamble flooding and playback attacks. This protocol demonstrated superior performance compared to NB-IoT, providing a more resilient approach to satellite communications under attack.

Real-Time Testing and Validation:

A comprehensive software testbed was built and evaluated to simulate a large-scale IoT satellite network. The team carried out real-time tests on the S-MIM protocol, validating the system’s performance against a range of jamming scenarios. The real-time validation platform confirmed the effectiveness of the detection and mitigation strategies, achieving a Technology Readiness Level (TRL) of 4.

Robust Defense Mechanisms:

The project introduced key defense strategies, such as the Rolling Preamble Mitigation, which helps ensure that communication remains uninterrupted during jamming attacks. This technique enables a smooth transition to new preambles, reducing receiver overload and maintaining system performance.

Resilience under Jamming:

During the tests, the system showed remarkable resilience under challenging conditions, including phase noise, random preamble flooding, and playback attacks. These findings highlight the robustness of the S-MIM protocol and its ability to maintain high performance even in the presence of intelligent jamming attempts.

Conclusion:
With the successful completion of the JEANS project, we have significantly advanced the field of secure IoT satellite communications. The developed detection and mitigation strategies will help ensure that IoT networks can continue to operate reliably and securely, even in the face of sophisticated jamming threats. This achievement marks a major milestone in the development of secure, scalable satellite communication systems for the growing IoT ecosystem.
The project’s outcomes provide a foundation for future deployments and further optimizations, paving the way for the widespread adoption of secure satellite-based IoT communication.
[30,48

post-31213","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-mbi-news-en","category-news-en
["GET
